Creation of a riverside environment and establishment of a new habitat for Inanga and other wildlife to increase the utilisation of an otherwise wasted land parcel.
Calcon was engaged to complete the earthworks, including 260m of bank re-contouring and 2580m³ of bulk excavation, for the enhancement of Dixons Reserve, a 6750m² flood margin of the lower Avon River.The reserve was a roughly grassed area, with steep, overgrown banks.
The project was completed on time and won the 2009 Christchurch City Council Environmental Award.
CHRISTCHURCH INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT ARTESIAN WATER STAGES 2 TO 4

To install a reticulation system to allow ground water to be used as an environmentally friendly cooling/heating agent for the new Airport Terminal Air Conditioning System”
Following on from their successful redevelopment works for Airport Carpark, Calcon were engaged to undertake the installation of a 650m network of pipes, to connect artesian wells to the New Terminal, and to a new discharge soak pit.
All works had to be completed whilst retaining the full functionality of the heavily used Carparks and road network.
This project was completed on time and was included in the 2009 Canterbury Contractor of the Year Award.

Construction of a complex hillside subdivision on Banks Peninsula in an environmentally sensitive coastal area.
The Black Rock Subdivision is a 48 section residential development in an environmentally sensitive coastal marine area.
The project brief included:
• Site Clearance
• Major Earthworks
• Retaining wall structures, including gabion baskets, crib walling, pavement construction
• Construction of bridge, stairs and stepped walkways, feature entrance walls and gates with dedicated security systems
• Drainage Installation
This project was completed on time and was one of the projects included in the 2009 Canterbury Contractor of the Year Supreme Award.
